Q - Master's Teacher Training ISS/Gym Music

Musicians with an artistic or artistic-pedagogical degree can acquire the qualifications for teaching music at integrated secondary schools/grammar schools (ISS/Gym) in a master's programme "Music Teaching Programme qualification for integrated secondary schools/grammar schools (ISS Gym)/lateral entry" ("Q - Master's" for short).

The Q - Master's programme builds on the knowledge and skills gained during the previous studies and expands them to include school-related study components

The programme includes artistic, pedagogical and academic study components focusing on job-related content. As music is considered to be a major subject, there is no need to study a second academic subject. Nevertheless, coursework in educational sciences must be completed at the Freie Universität Berlin.

The programme includes a practical semester during which the reality of subsequent professional life can be experienced over for a whole semester and reflected on in accompanying university events.

Q - Master's Teacher Training ISS/Gym Fine Arts

Artists with a degree in Fine Arts can acquire the qualifications for teaching Fine Arts at integrated secondary schools/grammar schools (ISS/Gym) in a master's programme qualifying graduates for the profession.

The Q - Master's programme builds on the knowledge and skills gained during the previous studies and expands them to include school-related study components.

The programme includes modules on art studies, aesthetics and art didactics. As Fine Arts is considered to be a major subject, there is no need to study a second academic subject. Nevertheless, coursework in educational sciences must be completed at the Freie Universität Berlin.

What can you expect?
The Q - Master's Music teacher training course for ISS/Gym offers you intensive academic and artistic work in music education, musicology, music theory, musical ensemble work and individual lessons (practical piano playing, speech training and, where applicable, singing). The prospect of your future pedagogical work in relation to music plays an essential role from the very beginning. After an artistic school project in the first semester, the course includes a practical semester in the third semester, during which you will experience the reality of subsequent professional life over the entire semester and reflect on it in accompanying university events. Finally, you will complete your studies with a master's thesis on a topic from the field of musicology or music education.
In the Q - Master's Fine Arts teacher training course for ISS/Gym, artists are trained to teach Fine Arts in their various manifestations to students and to encourage them to experiment and create their own artistic work.
